Dele Alli reacts after his effort against Fulham was awarded as an own goal

Dele Alli has expressed his disappointment after his effort against Fulham in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over the Cottagers was awarded as a Tosin Adarabioyo own goal.

Alli was handed his first start in the Premier League since the opening day of the season against Everton, with Jose Mourinho deciding to begin the game at Craven Cottage with the ‘fab four’ of Alli, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Gareth Bale.

However, chances were hard to come by in what was a tight and cagey game, with Tottenham’s forward line having to feed off scraps for much of the encounter.

Despite failing to create too much of note, the away side did have the best chances in the first-half after winning the ball back from Fulham in their own half on a couple of occasions.

After Kane missed a golden chance to give Spurs the lead, Alli thought he had scored his first Premier League goal of the season after he turned in Son’s low cross and reeled off to celebrate with the South Korean.

Replays showed that Alli’s effort was deflected off Adarabioyo’s foot before it went into the back of the net, with the goal subsequently being awarded as an own goal for the Fulham defender.

This is how Alli reacted to the decision on the goal on social media.

While the deflection from Adarabioyo helped beat the goalkeeper, it certainly seemed like Dele’s effort was on target. So this decision is quite puzzling one.
