Dele Alli reveals the two footballing idols from his childhood

Spurs player Dele Alli has revealed that Steven Gerrard and Ronaldinho were his favourite footballers growing up. Alli revealed to Goal.com ‘I used to watch a lot of YouTube clips of Ronaldinho when I was in school.’

Alli revealed that he idolised Ronaldinho because: ‘[I liked] the way he enjoyed playing, he always looked like he was having fun. And that was the way I wanted to play as well.’ He also revealed that he idolised Steven Gerrard for his ‘attitude’ and his ‘winning mentality’.

Alli is still a way off reaching the heights of those two players but has shown that he has the potential to. However, he has a slightly disappointing campaign last season for Spurs and will be looking to reignite his form this season (Mirror).

Spurs fans will certainly hope that Alli is able to emulate Gerrard’s exploits on the pitch.  However, they will be hoping that he doesn’t emulate Ronaldinho’s love of partying which saw his career burn out much sooner than it should have.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is easy to draw comparisons between Gerrard and Alli. Much like Alli, Gerrard was an English goalscoring midfielder who could grab a game by the scruff of the neck. Hopefully, he will live up to his potential and be as good as Gerrard and Ronaldinho!
