Departed Spurs hero insists he is out for Champions League revenge on Liverpool

The 2019/2020 season of the Champions League will begin later this evening as the best sides in Europe are set to once again battle it out for the honour of being crowned the champions of Europe.

While Spurs begin their Champions League campaign against Olympiacos on Wednesday, there are some good games to look forward to later tonight, with the Liverpool’s game away at Napoli arguably being the pick of the lot.

Former Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente, who signed for Napoli this summer after seeing his contract with Spurs expire, has insisted that he is out for revenge for the Champions League final defeat that the Reds inflicted on Spurs on the 2nd of June.

The 34-year-old striker, who played an important role in Spurs’ progression to the final, also claimed that his new team were capable of repeating what the Lilywhites did last season and getting to the final.

Football Italia quotes the Spaniard as saying, “Last season’s Final was very painful for me. I want ‘revenge’ and I want Napoli to show that they’re on par with a very good team like Liverpool.

“Of course [we can reach the Final], even if it’ll be difficult. We’re thinking game by game: after Liverpool, we’ll have to face two other teams. It’s never easy and if you waste a game, the group becomes complicated.”

It was a brilliant achievement by everyone at the club to make it to the final last year. While the final might have ended in disappointment, the memories from the journey to the final will remain etched in my memory of Spurs fans for a long time to come. The team will take a lot of confidence from last year’s showing as they now know that they are capable of beating anyone.
