Departed Tottenham player admits he had ‘many options’ to choose from in January

Hugo Lloris, who departed Tottenham after 11 and a half years to join Los Angeles FC, has admitted that he had quite a few options to choose from.

Lloris’ departure at the start of this month signalled the end of an era at Spurs, with the club’s long-serving captain and record Premier League appearance maker sealing a switch across the pond.

While the Frenchman had declined over the last 18 months or so, eventually being relegated to third choice in his final six months at the club, he will be remembered by Spurs fans for his countless heroics, being up there with the best goalkeepers in the world for a good chunk of his time with the Lilywhites.

According to reports, Tottenham agreed to pay off the six months that were left on the 36-year-old’s £100,000-a-week deal at North London, with the goalkeeper thought to have taken a pay cut to move to the Major League Soccer side (Football Insider).

Hugo Lloris was in demand in January

Lloris has now opened up on his decision to move to Los Angeles, admitting that he was attracted by the idea of playing in the United States.

The Spurs legend told L’Equipe: “I always had the desire to go discover a new continent. After 19 years in the professional world, I can detach myself from Europe and allow myself to live this experience.

“There were many options, but I think the United States represent a lot in sport, even if football isn’t the major sport there.

“Nice were not part of my plans. I have a lot of affection for that club that means something important in my eyes, but I really wanted to try something else. I’m very happy with my choice of going to the MLS. I’m impatient of discovering my new environment.”

This is a great move for Lloris and his family and I can see him playing in the MLS for another three of four years before finally hanging up his boots.
