Fabrizio Romano has explained that despite Paris Saint-Germain having a buy-back clause for Tottenham target, Xavi Simons, it will be the player who decides which club he moves to this summer.
Simons has taken the Eredivisie by storm after swapping PSG for PSV Eindhoven last summer, scoring 19 goals and providing nine assists in 34 league matches (Transfermarkt).
The 19-year-old has already been capped five times by the Netherlands national team and is seen by many as the next potential breakout star in Dutch football.
Unsurprisingly, the youngster is said to be on the radars of several European clubs, with Fabrizio Romano being the first one to report earlier this week that Tottenham are one of the clubs who have asked to be kept informed about the player.
He added that Simon is also wanted by Manchester United, Arsenal, Brighton, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig but revealed that PSG have a buy-back clause of just €6m (£5m) for the player.
Xavi Simons will have final say on summer transfer
Romano has now taken to social media to provide an update on the attacking midfielder’s future, explaining that even though the Parisians want to activate the buy-back clause, the player will make the final decision on his future.
The journalist added that Simon will assess various projects and ask for ‘guarantees’ about his involvement.
Of course PSG want to activate the buy back for Xavi Simons — it’s just €6m as revealed today and would be crazy not to do that…
…but it’s the player the only one who can decide, approve his future. It will depend on guarantees and project.

Spurs Web Opinion
If Simon does ask for guarantees over regular game time, one can argue it gives Tottenham an advantage over other suitors.
We are better placed to offer those sorts of guarantees to the 19-year-old than the likes of PSG and Man Utd, particularly with Postecoglou having a history of backing young talent.
