‘Depends on them’ – Rumoured Spurs target opens on up future after club’s relegation

Watford winger Ismaila Sarr has revealed that he is ready to play in the Championship if the Hornets still want to keep him following their relegation from the Premier League.

Sarr arrived at Vicarage Road with plenty of expectation on his shoulders after completing a big-money move from Rennes last summer.

While it took him some time to adapt to the demands of English football, glimpses of his quality eventually shone through, as he troubled defences with his pace and trickery.

The Sunday Mirror (9/8; page 65) reported that Spurs are eyeing a move for the 22-year-old, while Liverpool and Manchester United were also keen.

However, The Sun have installed Crystal Palace as the front-runners for the winger’s situation this summer and suggest that the Hornets are looking to raise £30million from his sale.

The Senegalese international has made it clear that he will not force himself out of Watford and admitted that he is yet to discuss his future with the club.

When asked about the speculation surrounding his future, Sarr told Watford Observer: “I still have years of contract with Watford, another 4 years.

“If Watford wants me to stay, I’ll play in the Championship; my departure also depends on them.

“I really don’t know what to say. We are going to play in the Championship since there is no transfer yet.

“I’m at the same level of information as everyone else about these transfer rumours. Every day, like everyone else, I receive information like what I’m going to play for Liverpool, Manchester United etc … But really, for the moment, we have not yet discussed it internally.

“I admit that there are other agents who talk to me about proposals from important teams, but for the moment, I remain quiet in my corner.

“I continue my work and the rest, my agent and my team will take care of it. Because whatever happens, you need the backing of the club.”

However, the pacy wide man opened up on his desire to play in the Champions League and admitted he is flattered to be linked with a move to Liverpool.

When asked about the Reds’ rumoured interest in signing him, Sarr added: “Liverpool are a really great team, everyone would love to play there. They won the Premier League this year and the Champions League last year.

“But also there are great teams in the English league. Frankly, I have yet to make a choice. If [he were to leave], I just hope it’s to a good team.

“Everyone who works is looking for advancement. Maybe if Watford frees me one day I could go and play for a bigger team. Go and showcase my talent elsewhere and then win trophies.

“Playing the Champions League is a dream for all players. I have already had the pleasure of playing in the Europa League so if these teams want to have me in their squads, let them discuss it with Watford and find an agreement, I would not say no.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I expect Watford to cash in Sarr this summer as they would not want to continue to pay his high wages in the Championship. I am not surprised that several of the so-called ‘big six’ seem to be interested in Sarr as he certainly showed glimpses last season that he could develop into a top wide forward.

Despite being relatively well-stocked in wide areas, the 22-year-old could be an excellent squad option for us to have. His pace and directness could make him an ideal super-sub to bring on if we are chasing a game.
