Most recent signing admits he is following Tottenham closely this season

Destiny Udogie has admitted that he is following Tottenham closely this season ahead of his arrival at the club next summer.

Udogie joined from Udinese for an initial £15m fee in the summer and was immediately sent back on loan to the Italian outfit for the rest of the current season (Sky Sports).

The decision already seems like a masterstroke, with the 19-year-old starting the season in impressive form for Andrea Sottil’s side. Calcio Mercato even recently named the on-loan Tottenham man among the top five fullbacks in Serie A.

It has also emerged over recent weeks that Spurs saw off competition from the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus for Udogie’s signature over the summer (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Meanwhile, Tuttosport reported a couple of weeks ago that Antonio Conte is ‘rubbing his hands together’ at the prospect of working with the 19-year-old next season.

Udogie has admitted that he is excited to experience the Premier League but insisted that his full focus remains on doing well for Udinese this campaign.

The left wing-back told Tuttomercatoweb: “Now I’m here at Udinese, I’m focused. From next year I’ll think about Tottenham.

“I know it’s the most difficult, beautiful and intense league. I follow the team, to see how they play and what players there are.”

If Conte does decide that Udogie is ready to be a key player for Spurs next season, the Italian might have to choose who to keep between Perisic and Sessegnon. The other alternative would be to perhaps send the 19-year-old on loan to a Premier League club next season to continue his development.
