Details revealed as Tottenham bid £8m for a player with an £87m release clause

The full details of Tottenham’s £8m opening offer for a Brazilian starlet, which was sent back quickly, have now come to light.

According to reports, Tottenham want to reinforce the whole of the left side of the pitch across this transfer window and the next.

It has been claimed by some sources that a left-sided defender has become a big priority for Spurs, due to concerns over Destiny Udogie’s constant injury troubles.

It emerged a couple of days ago that the Lilywhites have had an offer rejected for Santos starlet Souza, and the details of that bid have now been made public by a reputed outlet.

How much did Tottenham bid for Souza?

The Athletic now confirms that Spurs did have an offer turned down for the Brazilian, revealing that the Lilywhites put £8m on the table, with the bid being immediately sent back.

The outlet reveals that Santos are reluctant to lose the 19-year-old, who was such an important player for the club across 2025 and helped them avoid relegation.

It is revealed that the Brazilian club expect the teenager’s value to increase in the future and that the player is protected by a €60m (£52.2m) release clause, which increases to €100m (£87.1m) for overseas clubs.

How much do Spurs need to pay for Souza?

Souza has evolved into one of the best young full-backs in Brazilian football, showing his quality in both defence and attack last season.

According to a previous report by journalist Lucas Musetti, Santos have asked Tottenham to pay €17m (£14.8m) for 70 per cent of Souza’s economic rights.

If it is the case that his rights are not fully owned by Santos, that could make the deal even more complicated for the North Londoners to pull off.
