Dharmesh Sheth claims European giant are ‘huge admirers’ of Spurs player

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that Bayern Munich hold a long-standing interest in Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane.

The England captain is currently under contract in north London until the summer of 2024 and enjoyed a relatively quiet summer when it came to speculation about his future compared to the previous year when he was heavily linked with a move to Premier League champions Manchester City.

Bayern were left without a number nine after the prolific Robert Lewandowski completed a move to Barcelona earlier in the window.

In July, Spurs boss Antonio Conte was critical of his counterpart Julian Nagelsmann after the Bayern manager spoke in glowing terms of the 29-year-old (Daily Mail).

The Bundesliga giants have encountered a difficult start to the new campaign by their standards having found themselves with just three wins from their opening seven top flight matches.

Sheth has claimed that Bayern will be looking to bring in another number nine to fill Lewandowski’s boots while acknowledging how they have been impressed by Kane over a long period.

He told GiveMeSport: “That’s not to say that Bayern Munich aren’t interested. And they are, as I’ve been told by the Sky Germany reporters, a ‘number nine club’. They love a number nine.

“They’ve had one of the best in the business for the last seven or eight years in Robert Lewandowski, who’s now left, and now they’re trying to play in a different way. They’ve brought in Sadio Mane, not necessarily playing with someone like Lewandowski.

“They tried to get Erling Haaland, but that was never going to happen once City had come in with that bid and whatever they were paying him in wages.

“But it hasn’t really started as well as they would have liked in the Bundesliga, at least anyway, for Bayern Munich. And so, I think they’ll be looking at that position to strengthen, and they’ve been huge admirers of Harry Kane for a long, long time.”

A move to Bayern would be a massive lure for most players, however, it seems unlikely for Kane given his desire to beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record.

Tottenham fans will be hoping that they can continue to meet the demands of Antonio Conte and show the ambition that Kane will want to see to help make his decision easier to put pen to paper on a new deal.
