Di Marzio backs Spurs to pursue £60m-rated forward who Paratici ‘loves’

Gianluca Di Marzio has backed Tottenham Hotspur to push ahead with a move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez this summer.

There has been plenty of speculation linking Tottenham with a move for Martinez over recent weeks, with Inter Live reporting last month that Spurs are set to prioritise a deal for the Inter star when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

This has been backed up by TuttoMercatoWeb, who suggested that Antonio Conte is keen on reuniting with the Argentine, who thrived under him with the Nerrazuri.

Di Marzio has now said that Inter will cash in on their star man this summer if they receive a fee of around €70m (£58.9m).

He revealed that Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici rates Martinez highly and that the north London club tried to sign the Inter star last summer.

Di Marzio added that the Lilywhites could face competition from Atletico Madrid, who are the Argentina international’s preferred destination in the summer.

The Italian journalist told Wettfreunde: “I think Inter will let Lautaro go because of the economic situation if the offer is high. Inter showed last summer that they sell important players when they have to. But the offer should be very, very high. Romelu Lukaku went for €113m, Hakimi for €70m. So they won’t sell Lautaro for less than €70m.

“It also depends on the market, on Haaland, on Mbappé. I think Tottenham will go after Lautaro because they wanted him last summer. They want another forward to play with Kane or plan for the future without Kane. Lautaro Martinez is one of the players that Fabio Paratici loves.

“I think it could be Lautaro’s summer and Atlético Madrid or Tottenham could be the perfect destinations for him. But I know that he would like to go to Madrid. He is happy at Inter and was convinced of his contract extension. But if he had to choose another club, it would be Atlético Madrid with Simeone.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs have historically had trouble signing a top centre-forward as strikers know that they will have to play second fiddle to Kane. Signing a player of Martinez’s quality and versatility might thus be the way to go as the Argentine could partner Kane and Son upfront, while also being able to cover for the England captain when required.
