Di Marzio names manager he thinks would be best to replace Conte at Spurs

Gianluca di Marzio has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino would be the best option for Tottenham to turn to if the club part ways with Antonio Conte in the near future.

Over the past few weeks, multiple outlets have suggested (Daily Mail and Evening Standard) that Conte’s future at Spurs is in doubt and that the North London club could turn to the likes of Pochettino or Thomas Tuchel to replace the Italian.

TuttoMercatoWeb even claimed last week that the Tottenham hierarchy have already made direct contact with Pochettino’s camp regarding returning to the club.

However, Alasdair Gold revealed on his latest  Q&A on Football.London a couple of days ago that barring a huge fall-out between Daniel Levy and Conte, the Italian will stay at least until the end of the current season.

He also explained that the Spurs hierarchy are divided over the idea of bringing Pochettino back to the club.

Di Marzio has now suggested that the Argentine would be the best fit for the job since he already knows the club inside out.

The journalist told Soccer News: “I think Pochettino would be the right successor to Conte, for the simple reason that he already knows the ‘Tottenham world’ like the back of his hand.

“That means he will not need an adjustment period in terms of the ins and outs of the club, also in terms of the mentality of Spurs.

“At the moment, Antonio Conte and Tottenham are no longer talking about a contract extension, because Antonio is completely focused on the games and his family. I don’t expect an extension, but that’s my prediction.

“As for Diego Simeone; his defensive style of play will probably not be received too well by Tottenham fans.

“They want to see a team that attacks, a team that tries to play spectacularly with all those offensive-minded players running around there. And that is obviously not a good match with the ‘Diego Simeone mentality’.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Until a week or two ago, I was sceptical about whether Spurs will turn to Pochettino as the Argentine did not strike me as the sort of head coach that Paratici would prefer.

However, with Paratici’s future at Tottenham now looking in major doubt after the Juventus captain gains verdict, I would not be surprised if Levy turns to the Argentine in the summer if Conte does leave.
