‘Diabolical’ – Redknapp blasts Spurs star after yet another poor performance

Jamie Redknapp has wasted no time in criticising Cristian Romero’s performance during Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-3 defeat at Liverpool yesterday afternoon.

Tottenham have had a rough time as of late, especially away from home with fans still licking their wounds following the 6-1 thrashing at Newcastle United.

A spirited second half against Manchester United on Thursday night helped to keep the wolves from Daniel Levy’s door, however, the north Londoners once again capitulated within the opening moments of the match at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went ahead inside the opening 180 seconds after poor positioning play from Pedro Porro allowed Curtis Jones too much space to fire home, however, it was Romero, who caught the attention of Redknapp.

The Spurs centre-back was at fault for two of Liverpool’s goals when he failed to close down Diaz and also hacked down Cody Gakpo for Salah’s penalty.

Redknapp said at half-time during his punditry duty on Sky Sports (30/04/2023, 5:25 PM) Redknapp could not believe four words that the defender said after giving away a penalty today.

“Romero decides to just make such a rash poor decision.

“I have seen some of his defending this last four, five games.

“Diabolical. Not making right decisions. He actually says I got the ball. You got nowhere near it and you are costing your team with those decisions.”

Romero might be a World Cup winner, however, his performances this season, especially since Argentina lifted the trophy have been nothing short of diabolical.

He continues to make rash decisions, there was absolutely no need for him to go to ground which caused the foul on Gakpo.  Positionally, both himself and Porro are a liability.
