Did Alderweireld play for the badge against Liverpool?

After much speculation in the summer over a potential Tottenham exit, Alderweireld has managed to fight his way back into Pochettino’s first team.

The Belgian centre half now categorically denies having any desire to leave Spurs, and talk of a new contract is circulating according to reports.

However, there was something strange about Alderweireld on Saturday against Liverpool.

Some eagle-eyed Tottenham Hotspur fans accused Toby of not playing for the badge at Wembley, as Spurs fell to a 2-1 loss.

However, this wasn’t a reflection on the defender’s performance, as Alderweireld’s shirt was actually missing the most important feature, the Tottenham Hotspur badge.

It’s a strange oversight from the kit team at Spurs who have somehow missed that his Nike shirt was devoid of our famous cockerel.

Alderweireld was actually one of the standout performers for Spurs, putting in a solid defensive showing, rarely gifting possession, or putting a foot wrong.

Toby was also one of the only players to acknowledge the defeat on social media, addressing his disappointment to the fans.

  1. Good man. Love this guy and hope he signs a new contract and is happy on a bit more cash. Would cost us too much to replace.

I’d like to have seen him play against Liverpool in a 5 man defence, with Sanchez alongside him & Toby. It was one of those games where we needed a more solid defensive base with more freedom for either Rose or Tripps to roam up the pitch.
