‘Did it with Moses’ – Ferdinand hints Conte may make wing-back decision at Spurs

Rio Ferdinand has claimed Antonio Conte will make an ‘interesting’ decision regarding the wing-back role at Tottenham and cited the transition of Victor Moses at Chelsea and Ivan Perisic at Inter Milan as prime models to use.

Conte is set to embark on his first transfer window as Tottenham manager as he looks to stamp his mark on the squad.

Reports have suggested that Spurs are keen to recruit a new centre-back in January while a new right wing-back could also be brought in, with rumours linking Matt Doherty away from the club.

Spurs have allegedly reignited their interest in Wolves winger Adama Traore following their unsuccessful bid in the summer, with a view to deploy the Spaniard at wing-back as competition to Emerson Royal.

Ferdinand, discussing the rumour with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, is looking forward to see who Conte converts into the role and referenced the output he received from both Moses and Perisic as examples to look out for.

Romano said on Vibe With FIVE: “Adama Traore is a name that they have on their list, Fabio Paratici, the sporting director loves Adama Traore, he wanted him at Juventus too, so he is a possibility for Tottenham.”

Ferdinand added: “A lot of the times, at wing-back especially he likes to play with actual wingers. He did it with Moses at Chelsea and with Perisic at Inter, so it will be interesting to see what type of player he goes for out there.”

It definitely seems that Conte is keen to bring in a winger to use at right wing-back and Traore will be a target throughout January. He has the tools to be successful in that role, but many will be put off by his underwhelming attacking numbers as an outright winger.
