‘Did you see me before the game?’ – Son reveals his joy at return of Spurs fans

Tottenham Hotspur star Son-Heung Min has spoken openly about how much he enjoyed fans returning to the stadium on Sunday.

The South Korean international explained that he just ‘couldn’t believe it’ and he was ‘so happy you guys are back in the stadium’.

Tottenham welcomed in fans for the first full capacity match since March 2020 and the 58,262 spectators packed into the Tottenham Hotspur stadium witnessed a great display which was capped off by a fine match-winning goal from Son.

It was Son’s seventh goal against Man City and Spurs’ fourth win over Pep Guardiola’s men in a row at home (Tottenham).

The South Korean played through the middle as the main focal point to try and make up for the void left by Harry Kane’s absence. Son delivered, constantly stretching the Man City defence and scoring the vital goal which was the difference between the two sides.

Son spoke very openly about the game and how he felt about seeing Spurs fans back in the stadium: “Did you see me before the game?

“I was smiling when I saw all the flags. I just couldn’t believe it, they (the fans) are finally back!

“They give us so much positive energy, pushing us, and that’s what we miss and what we need, everyone together, fans, players, staff, everyone.

“That’s how I felt. If we have some bad games or bad results, it could happen, but we need you guys, supporting us so amazingly, and we will do our best on the pitch.

“I was so happy you guys are back in the stadium, really grateful, and the team did a great, great job. I really enjoyed it.

“Even though I was on the pitch, I was thinking, ‘look at this team’. I was like a fan of the players. Let’s keep pushing hard, all together.

Playing Pep’s Man City is no easy task, and Son explained how the whole team had to be at the top of their game:

“You need to be on it, otherwise you’ll get punished.

“The guys were, how can I say? Actually, I don’t need to say anything. I’m so grateful they were behind me, fighting, recovering the ball, and gave me so many chances, I’m so grateful to have players like them, so proud.

“This result will give us so much of a positive boost, positive energy. Let’s push all together. The season is so long, and we need everyone, you guys, us, everyone together, pushing and let’s hope we can achieve some big things.”
