‘Didn’t think we would miss him’ – O’Hara admits he was wrong about ex-Spurs star leaving

Jamie O’Hara has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have missed Christian Eriksen much more than he thought they would when the Dane left.

Spurs snapped up Eriksen from Ajax for a mere £11.5m back in the summer of 2013 and the midfielder proved to be a key part of the club’s rise under Mauricio Pochettino.

The Dane eventually departed Tottenham in the January of 2020 after six and a half years at the club to join Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Since Eriksen’s departure to Inter Milan last year, the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso have not quite been able to fill the creative void left by the 29-year-old.

The former Spurs man had a major scare this summer as he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during Denmark’s opening game of Euro 2020 in the summer.

Thankfully, the medical staff on hand at the ground managed to resuscitate him using a defibrillator.  Eriksen is expected to undertake a new series of tests at the end of this year to assess whether his football career can continue.

O’Hara has admitted that Spurs have not replaced Eriksen’s creativity since his departure.

The pundit claimed on his Instagram live: “We need to buy someone in January. A number ten. Christian Eriksen, we have missed massively.

“I didn’t think we would miss him that much. But we have no one who can open the team-up. It’s getting ridiculous now.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Like O’Hara, I did not think Eriksen’s departure was a major loss when he left as he had been underperforming for 12 months.

I was hopeful until a few months ago that Lo Celso would be able to fill some of the creative void left by the Dane but I am now starting to have serious doubts about the Argentine.
