Dimitar Berbatov on Tottenham’s chances of winning at Liverpool

Dimitar Berbatov has shared his opinion ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash against Liverpool this weekend.

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 48 games in the Premier League (W39 D8 L1), losing 1-2 vs Man City in January 2019.

At Anfield, the Reds are unbeaten in 44 Premier League contests (W34 D10), last losing against Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace in April 2017 (1-2)

While Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently top of the Premier League table, Spurs find themselves trailing the Reds by thirteen points after just nine games played.

The former forward believes that Spurs will get their chances against Liverpool and need to learn how to grind out a tough 1-0 win in matches.

Tottenham’s away form leaves a lot to be desired given the fact that they are without a win in their last 10 Premier League away games (D2 L8), including a 1-2 defeat to Liverpool in March. The Lilywhites last endured a longer such run between May 2000-January 2001 under George Graham (14 games).

Berbatov told BetFair: “Before Spurs’ Champions League match, I saw photos of the guys training, they all had smiles and were in a good mood, which means Pochettino knows how to lift his players before games and we saw the result that followed.

“It was a great result for them that will lift some pressure, but one game finishes and another one awaits.

“They now have another big, big test against Liverpool and it is important for them because they can’t afford to have any more games like they had against Brighton or Bayern Munich, they need to know how to be pragmatic and just win 1-0, defend well and get the three points.

“Liverpool, along with Man City, are one of the best teams in the world at the minute and they will be in their faces straight away at Anfield with Mane, Salah, Firminho and everyone behind them, they are going to run like crazy and pressure them, so they need a good plan to approach that game.

“Spurs need the win, Liverpool will be the favourites but Spurs have shown it before how they can play against the best teams and I hope that will be the case, as difficult as it seems they will get their chances.”
