Dimitar Berbatov opens up on how much his Tottenham legacy means to him

After rolling back the years in Tottenham Legends vs AC Milan Glorie, Dimitar Berbatov exclusively told Spurs Web what his legacy at the club means to him.

Tottenham Hotspur legends of yesteryear flocked to North London this weekend to take on an AC Milan Glorie XI featuring Andrea Pirlo, Dida, and Cafu.

Dimitar Berbatov was joined by some of his old teammates, Robbie Keane, Aaron Lennon, Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson, and Ledley King, as well as icons including 64-year-old Mark Falco.

The Bulgarian superstar is still in incredible shape but – in true Berba style – rarely got out of second gear during his 90 minutes on the pitch, showcasing his full range of exquisite first touches and flicks.

One moment, in particular, had the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium rippling with applause when Berbatov scooped a ball down on his foot at head height as if it was nothing.

Tottenham legacy number means a lot to Dimitar Berbatov

After the Legends match, Berbatov and co walked through the mixed zone for their interviews with the national press. A true gentleman, Dimitar stopped and spoke to every single journalist who wanted to ask a question.

With a commemorative box in hand, embossed with his Tottenham Hotspur legacy number 715, we asked what it meant to have such a permanent and important place in Spurs history.

Berbatov exclusively told Spurs Web: “It’s a great gesture. It’s a great thing that they give to everybody. It’s something special that I will keep and put it in my cabinet with all my trophies and it reminds me that I have been part of the history of Spurs.

“I gave my best for the club; we won a trophy – I scored at Wembley in a perfect game. Good luck to the team and let’s hope they can lift a trophy sooner rather than later.”

Dimitar Berbatov recently admitted that he almost cried when Harry Kane left Tottenham and couldn’t believe that no other Premier League clubs attempted to snap him up.

Dimitar Berbatov’s stats for Tottenham Hotspur

Berbatov swapped Bayer Leverkusen for North London back in 2006 and went on to forge an iconic partnership with Robbie Keane in the Lilywhite of Tottenham. It is easy to forget that the Bulgarian only actually played two seasons for Spurs – much like the powerful lasting legacy of Rafael Van der Vaart.

Berba scored from the spot in the 2008 Carling Cup Final when Spurs beat Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley.
