Dimitar Berbatov sends passionate message to Gareth Bale – ‘I want to see you play’

Former Tottenham man, Dimitar Berbatov has sent a rallying cry to Gareth Bale this week, urging him to get himself some regular playing time.

Bale made just 16 appearances in La Liga this season, with under one-third of those coming in the starting line-up for Real Madrid (TransferMarkt).

While Bale’s Madrid figures of 105 goals in 251 games remain impressive (Wikipedia), the Welshman has cut a disinterested player of late on Zinedine Zidane’s bench.

The Los Blancos boss even revealed last week that Bale had asked not to be a part of the squad that travelled to face Manchester City in the Champions League (Daily Mail).

In an interview with Betfair, as relayed by Goal, Berbatov claimed that he was surprised to hear that Bale did not want to play in the crucial match.

He also urged the former Spurs winger to play football because he is too gifted to sit on the bench.

Berbatov said: “When I heard that Gareth Bale didn’t want to play, I was surprised and even more surprised that Zidane revealed it to the media.

“Something is not right over there with him. If he’s fit, it is awful that he doesn’t play. When a player refuses to do that, it confuses me a lot.

“Gareth, I want to see you play football! He is too gifted to sit on the bench.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Something is not right over at Real Madrid. It seems as if the relationship between Bale and Zidane is at an all-time low and I would love to see the Welshman escape the situation that he finds himself in while he still has some years left at the top.
