Dimitar Berbatov warns Spurs of ‘dangerous’ transfer scenario unfold this summer

Dimitar Berbatov has warned Tottenham they could face a ‘dangerous’ scenario where Heung-min Son attracts transfer speculation this summer alongside interest in talisman Harry Kane.

Spurs’ forward line has been in top form under Antonio Conte, with Son being a crucial element of a trio containing himself, Kane and January arrival Dejan Kulusevski.

The South Korean is the club’s top scorer in the Premier League with 20 goals, which places him just two behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot.

Son committed himself to Spurs until 2025 by signing a fresh four-year deal last summer (Sky Sports) and will be hoping a similar situation will occur with strike partner Kane, who was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City.

But City’s recent move to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland will likely block that specific route out of north London for the England captain, which could boost Tottenham’s hopes of retaining him into next season (Football.London).

However, Berbatov feels interest in Kane this summer could be accompanied by speculation around Son too, and compared the scenario to when he secured a move from Spurs to Manchester United, while partner Robbie Keane joined Liverpool that same window.

Berbatov told the Evening Standard: “But also Son is getting better and better with every season. So this is another dangerous situation, where all of a sudden maybe someone comes for your other striker, some other team offering you a lot of money.

“Then you are going to be in a situation where I and Keano (Robbie Keane) were back in the day. One was wanted by Liverpool and the other [Manchester] United. Then we were both gone.

“So in this case, with Son and Kane, it is a dangerous one because they are your top, top players in the team who can give you goals. If someone comes for them and offers you a lot of money, then what do you do? What do you do? But I know that Antonio Conte wants to keep them for sure, because these are the stars that can produce those moments that make the difference.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Son has been such a bright light for Tottenham this season so they have to be wary of any transfer interest in him that comes their way this summer.

The good news is that he is contracted at the club for quite a while so that works in their favour, but nothing can be ruled out when it comes to the modern transfer market.
