Director admits 27-year-old Spurs target wants PL move this summer

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has admitted that rumoured Tottenham target Jonathan Tah could be on his way to the Premier League this summer.

Tah has been a fantastic servant for Leverkusen since first joining the club back in 2015, with the centre-back having made more than 300 appearances for the club so far.

90 min asserted back in February that the 27-year-old’s time at the Bundesliga club could come to an end this summer as he wishes to move to England.

The report named Spurs as one of the clubs interested in Tah, revealing that the North London club spoke to officials from Leverkusen about the player.

The outlet added that Liverpool and Newcastle United had also reached out to the centre-back’s representatives to discuss a potential transfer while it was subsequently reported by Bild that West Ham United have their eye on the German international.

Rolfes has now said that the defender, who has two years left on his contract at BayArena, has never hidden his desire to move to the Premier League.

Jonathan Tah wants PL move amidst Spurs links

The Leverkusen director told BILD about Tah: “If he doesn’t sense the right opportunity (to leave), there’s always a chance that he’ll stay.

“(But) he always had the goal of playing in the Premier League. We set up his current deal so that he could do so. If he has a chance to realise that now, it’s okay.”

Any targets we had during the Paratici and Conte era are now likely to be void, given that the club are now heading in a different direction.

Postecoglou would likely want central defenders with completely different characteristics from the ones that his predecessor wanted.
