Director admits club would ‘have to talk’ amid rumoured Spurs interest in striker

Stuttgart director Sven Mislintat has admitted that the German club would be willing to talk to clubs about the potential sale of their best players amid reports suggesting Tottenham are eyeing a move for Nicolas Gonzalez.

Stuttgart have out-performed expectations so far this season, with the club currently sitting closer to the European places than they are to the relegation zone following their promotion to the top flight last year.

The performances of Gonzalez have been one of the reasons behind Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side’s impressive showing this campaign, with the versatile forward, having scored 6 times in 14 league appearances so far.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein claimed at the start of January that Tottenham had begun talks with Stuttgart over a deal for the forward and suggested that the Bundesliga club were willing to let him leave for around €30m (£26.8m).

Sport Bild (via Sport Witness) revealed last month that the chances of the Argentine leaving the Mercedes-Benz Arena was ’50-50′, with Tottenham being mentioned as one of the contenders for his signature.

Mislintat has now hinted that although Stuttgart would like to keep their best players, they will not stand in the way if some of their stars want to take bigger steps.

He told Echo45: “If it’s up to us, we want to keep the group together, it’s clear. But if offers came, we would have to talk about them – also in the interests of the players.

“Whatever comes our way, we will react accordingly when the time comes. We will find solutions if we have to “sell one or two top performers.”
