Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa has opened the door for an interesting Luka Vuskovic agreement with Tottenham after the centre-back’s exemplary start to the season.
Less than two months into his loan spell at HSV, the Croat has already established himself as a key player for the side.
Vuskovic’s Hamburg teammates have been raving about his impact, and it is not hard to understand why.
The Tottenham loanee is leading the Bundesliga in several key defensive metrics, showing already that he is among the best in German football at the tender age of 18.

Hamburg open door for Luka Vuskovic agreement with Tottenham
In light of the defender’s recent displays, there have been suggestions that Spurs could recall Vuskovic prematurely to boost Thomas Frank’s options at centre-back.
Not only is HSV director Claus Costa convinced that a recall is not going to happen, but he has now indicated that the German club would be open to extending the teenager’s stay beyond the end of this season.
Speaking to Transfermarkt.de, Costa said: “The Vuskovic issue has been with us throughout the summer. We always had the clear intention of signing him – and he committed to us relatively early on.
“We didn’t want to take Luka away from Tottenham Hotspur and instead wanted to create a win-win-win situation. We’re helping Tottenham, Luka is helping us, and we’re all helping him. He’s playing very convincingly, has a great charisma, and gives us a lot. We’re happy to have him.”
When asked about defender staying put at Hamburg beyond this season, the Bundesliga club’s director responded: “It’s only October, so much can still happen between now and May; there are many variables. As of now, there’s no contractual option. Based on what we’ve seen so far, we’d like to keep him longer – definitely.
“We certainly wouldn’t mind. The question is how we’ll get there, what Tottenham’s plan is, and how Luka’s season is going. But that’s a crystal ball gazing exercise and impossible to assess as of today.”
Vuskovic has not ruled out Hamburg stay beyond next summer
People associated with Tottenham expect big things from Vuskovic, and Spurs fans are excited about the possibility of having the youngster back next summer, equipped with a year of Bundesliga football under his belt.
However, the defender has already become a fan favourite in the north of Germany, and it appears that he is loving his time at the club.
Speaking to the local media two weeks ago, Vuskovic did not rule out staying at Hamburg beyond this season, simply stating: “Let’s see what happens next summer” when asked about the possibility.
