Director confirms talks with Tottenham about potentially signing wide-man

Hajduk Split sporting director Mindaugas Nikolicius has confirmed that the Croatian side are in dialogue with Tottenham Hotspur about Ivan Perisic but suggested that a decision had not yet been made regarding when to pursue the winger.

Perisic has been out of action with an ACL injury since September and with the winger seemingly not close to a recovery, it has been widely reported over the last few months that he has already played his final game for Spurs (Football Insider).

Several Croatian outlets have talked up the chances of the 34-year-old returning to his boyhood club Hadjuk Split, with 24 Sata even labelling the transfer as ‘inevitable’ back in November.

Just last week, Hajduk manager Mislav Karoglan admitted that he would love to add the Tottenham man to his squad (Dalmatinski Portal).

It was subsequently reported by Sportske Novosti a couple of days ago that Spurs and the Croatian side are in contact over the winger and explained that the fee is not an issue.

However, the outlet revealed that while Perisic only wants a short-term contract, Hajduk would prefer to tie the player to a longer-term contract.

Hajduk confirm talks with Spurs over Ivan Perisic

Nikolicius has now remarked that there is still no clarity on when Perisic is expected to recover from his injury, but he pointed out that they have plenty of time to make a move for their former player since Croatian clubs can sign players until the middle of February.

The Hajduk director told the club’s media (as relayed by Sport Witness): “Ivan is hurt, it’s too early. We have to see when he will recover and when he will be able to run and play.

“The transfer window here lasts until the middle of February and that is an advantage for us. There is a dialogue with Tottenham and we will make the best decision for everyone.”

A move to Hajduk looks inevitable for Perisic. Given that Tottenham are not likely to demand a fee for the winger, the Croatian club would not have much to gain by waiting until the summer to sign him.
