Director of football confirms Crystal Palace made approach for striker linked with Spurs

QPR director of football Les Ferdinand has confirmed that Crystal Palace made an enquiry for striker Eberechi Eze during the January transfer window.

Eze is enjoying an impressive campaign at Loftus Road with Tottenham Hotspur having been installed as emerging favourites to sign him when the transfer market reopens in the summer (The Sun).

His trickery and skill have left many defenders mesmerised while he has also shown that he has the end product by notching up twelve goals and eight assists so far this season (transfermarkt).

The Rangers academy graduate, who is said to be valued at around £20 million by the Championship club, is also reportedly interesting Palace.

The former Spurs striker revealed that the Eagles asked about the 21-year-old’s availability in January but did not follow it up with a firm offer.

Speaking to the Beautiful Game Podcast (as relayed by The Standard), the former England international said: “Palace made an enquiry (for Eze) but we never got to any fee or any negotiations in terms of what it was going to take.

“They made an enquiry about him and that was it.”

Ferdinand admitted that while everyone at the club wishes to hold onto the talented forward, the decision could be taken out of their hands in the summer.

When asked if Eze will leave QPR in the summer, he responded: “I think that is out of our hands. We may get an offer that we can’t refuse.

“We don’t want to see him go because we are trying to build something here.

“But at the same time we know that along the way we are going to lose one or two assets and that usually enables us to replenish the squad which, like I said because of Financial Fair Play and the way things work in the Championship at the moment, for us as a football club it is the only way we can survive and move forward.”

I really hope we don’t miss out on Eze as he is likely to take the Premier League by storm whoever he signs for. We have found with Grealish and Maddison that missing out on young talent coming through from the Championship can be quite costly. Let’s hope we don’t end up losing out on Eze due to Levy’s penny-pinching.
