‘Disappointing’ – Postecoglou admits he saw something for the first time against Fulham

Ange Postecoglou has said that the clash against Fulham on Saturday was the first time that he had seen his players fail to even compete with the opposition, expressing his disappointment at the display his side delivered.

Tottenham fans and neutrals were completely caught off guard by the disastrous performance that the Lilywhites delivered at Craven Cottage.

Postecoglou’s men were massive favourites going into the game and should have been high on confidence after their 4-0 win at Villa Park.

However, they failed to show any of the urgency and intensity that they did at the West Midlands, instead delivering quite a passive display and simply expecting Fulham to roll over.

Marco Silva’s men handed Tottenham a stark reality check, demonstrating to the young players in the Spurs squad that they will be punished if they take their foot off the gas.

Postecoglou was disappointed by Spurs in Fulham defeat

Postecoglou admitted that the most disappointing aspect of the performance was the fact that his players simply failed to compete for much of the second period.

The Tottenham head coach told Football London: “To be fair to the players, it’s the first time this year where I’ve felt, especially in the second half, that we just didn’t (compete).

“We’re in the position we are because every week we’ve been really, really competitive in every aspect of the game and even in our losses I’ve felt like we’ve hit certain markers in terms of our endeavour and competitiveness and I thought that it was missing today and that was disappointing.”

There are no easy games in the Premier League these days and teams will punish you if you are lacking in effort and intensity. However, one cannot be too harsh on the Tottenham squad as this is a young, inexperienced side and they were always going to make mistakes along this journey.
