‘Disappointments’ – Alfie Devine names the Tottenham player he looks up to

Alfie Devine has been talking to The Athletic about his footballing journey so far, and has named Harry Kane as the Tottenham Hotspur player he looks up to.

Devine is highly regarded as one of the best prospects to come through the Tottenham youth system in quite some time and it is believed he has a bright future ahead at the club.

Though still a part of the youth team with Spurs, Devine does have one appearance for the first team and one goal, too (Transfermarkt).

His debut and goal, in the FA Cup tie with Marine back in 2021, made Devine the youngest player to turn out for Spurs, and the youngest-ever goalscorer for the club (TottenhamHotspur.com).

It hasn’t always been easy for Devine, though. He was released by Liverpool as an 11-year-old before being picked up by Wigan Athletic and then moving to Tottenham. The 18-year-old has spoken about how that experience affected him at the time in his discussion with The Athletic.

Thankfully, he bounced back and has landed on his feet now, and Devine said the story of Harry Kane’s journey from rejection at Arsenal, to becoming one of the very best players in the world, has been an inspiration to him throughout his time with Spurs.

He said: “Harry Kane, too. He had disappointments when he was younger, being released. There’s no one better to look up to.”

Spurs Web Opinion

You can do far worse than having Harry Kane as a role model, and it must be particularly inspiring to have him around the club for Devine and all the younger players.

If Spurs can manage Devine effectively and ensure his development stays on the right track, we could have another top, top player on our hands.

Hopefully, he can get a loan spell soon to gain some first-team experience, and then come back to Spurs ready to perform for our first team.
