After Brighton overcame Millwall to progress to the semifinals of the FA Cup, it was confirmed that Tottenham’s first game at their new 62,062-capacity stadium will see them host Crystal Palace on the 3rd of April.
As things stand, the game will go ahead as long as there are no problems in the two test events planned for later this month.
The club confirmed that there will be an opening ceremony held at the venue 30 minutes before kick off.
One gripe that Spurs fans have had with the arrangement is that the first game falls during the week instead of a weekend, and thus is not ideal as some season ticket holders won’t be able to make the game.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports have decided not to show the first game on TV, and have instead said that they will be covering the opening ceremony before cutting to the Etihad to broadcast Manchester City playing Cardiff City.
This news certainly didn’t sit well with Spurs fans and left some of them fuming. Here’s how some fans reacted to the news:
Frankly astonishing. Top 3 club moving into a new £850m stadium. Can you imagine Sky doing that to City ‘pool, United, Chelsea or Arse’.

It is daft, Thing is we will have people pointing at us saying why do we have the right to be on TV, Well for Fans who can't get a Ticket its the only way they will see most important day in the Clubs recent History. could @SpursOfficial TV not show on line ?

Not overly surprised. Every Spurs fan I know assumed it would be, i didn’t think it would necessarily. It’s important for us but why would the tv companies care?
