‘Disgusted’ – Tottenham and FIFA condemn racist abuse against Richarlison

Tottenham Hotspur have strongly condemned the racist abuse that Richarlison suffered during Brazil’s 5-1 win over Tunisia on Tuesday.

Richarlison scored Brazil’s second goal, just a minute after Tunisia had equalised and when the striker wheeled off to celebrate, he had a banana thrown at him by the crowd.

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) has issued a statement on social media confirming the incident.

The Tottenham man himself took to social media after the game to assert that things will not change if the authorities do not enforce strong punishments for these kinds of actions.

Spurs have now posted a statement, stating that they are disgusted by what happened at Parc des Princes on Tuesday, and expressed their support to the 25-year-old.

FIFA have also reacted to the ugly scenes in Paris, stating that they have zero tolerance for any racist abuse. International football’s governing body said that they will be launching an investigation into the incident.

Actions speak louder than words and I hope the perpetrators involved are identified and handed a lifetime ban. A slap on the wrist is not enough for racist abuse and unless harsh punishments are handed out, idiots will not be deterred from doing this in the future.
