‘Do not want to accept’ – Fiorentina chief makes admission regarding Vlahovic

Fiorentina chief executive Joe Barone has admitted that Dusan Vlahovic has rejected the club’s latest offer of a lucrative new contract amidst the speculation surrounding his future.

Vlahovic has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs over the past couple of months.

However, the North Londoners are reportedly facing competition from the likes of Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester City for the forward.

Gazzetta dello Sport revealed this week that the Fiorentina have made up their minds to hang on to Vlahovic until the end of the season unless they receive a mammoth offer for the striker next month.

The report claimed that it might take an offer of around €100m (£84.8m) to price the striker out of the Artemio Franchi Stadium mid-season.

However, it will be interesting to see if the Viola’s stance is about to change, with Barone now revealing that the striker’s entourage turned down the biggest contract offer in Fiorentina’s history.

He told La Repubblica: ‘We’ve offered Vlahovic the highest contract ever in the history of Fiorentina, several times.

“Both Dusan and his agent made us realise that they do not want to accept. Our bid is still on the table.”

Common sense suggests that Fiorentina would want to cash in on Vlahovic next month as they would not want to get as much value in the market for him as possible. However, the striker might prefer to leave at the end of the season as he will likely have more suitors to choose from in the summer.
