Doctor offers good news for Spurs as injured star is unlikely to need surgery

Ben Davies may not feature again for Spurs this season, but according to a doctor, it seems the Welshman is unlikely to require surgery on his calf injury.

Now the longest-serving member of the Tottenham squad, Davies continues to be an admirable servant to the club, filling in this season across the defence during the deep injury crisis the Lilywhites have suffered.

However, it’s Davies’ turn to be on the injury list now, having sustained a calf issue during the North London derby a fortnight ago.

There is even a chance that we may never see Davies in a Tottenham shirt again, with rumours suggesting the 31-year-old has been deemed ‘surplus to requirements’ and that the club will listen to offers for him this summer (Football Insider).

Ben Davies unlikely to need surgery

Regardless of where he plays his football next season, there is some good news for Davies this week, as injury expert, Dr. Rajpal Brar, has revealed he believes the defender will not require surgery on his current injury.

Brar told Tottenham News: “Davies has picked up a calf injury and it does appear to be a serious one which has seen Ange ruling out of the remaining games. If he gets through rehab appropriately, he should be ready for pre-season and not need surgery.

“It may be too soon to assess and perhaps the first or second week of June will provide a clearer picture as to whether or not a procedure is needed but as of now, it’s unlikely.”

This is really good news. Surgery for any player is a time-consuming and risky step, and given the stage of his career, Ben Davies can ill afford to lose much time now. It’ll be very interesting to see how he recovers, and how that impacts his summer, either at Spurs or away from the club.
