‘Doesn’t take any prisoners’ – Ferdinand reveals what Conte will change at Spurs

Rio Ferdinand has backed Antonio Conte to change the entire mentality at Tottenham Hotspur.

A week into Conte’s reign, there have been several reports detailing how impressed the Tottenham players have been with the Italian’s training sessions and his man-management.

In a comprehensive piece on Conte’s first week at North London, The Athletic also described the more wholesale changes the 52-year-old has already set about implementing.

It was explained that the former Inter boss wanted to improve the fitness levels of the squad by making changes to players’ training regimes and diets.

He also allegedly wants to foster a sense of togetherness among the squad and is thought to have prioritised regular team meetings for that purpose.

Ferdinand believes that Conte will not just improve the Tottenham on the pitch but that he will also make some fundamental changes to the way the club operates.

The former Manchester United defender claimed that a strong-willed personality like Conte is exactly what Spurs need.

He said on his YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE: “He’ll (Conte) change the mentality at the football club.

“He’ll change the ethos at the club and he’ll change the philosophy at the club because he’s very strong-willed.

“He doesn’t take any prisoners and he’s a strong character and that’s what they need.”

Let us hope Ferdinand is right as Spurs arguably are desperate for someone to change the club’s ethos and mentality. That was likely one of Fabio Paratici’s long-term goals anyway when he took over as the managing director of football in the summer. The appointment of Conte will help accelerate the process.
