Doherty reveals Mourinho sent him a video message before move to London

Matt Doherty has revealed that Jose Mourinho sent him videos of the Tottenham changing room to show what was waiting for him before he completed his move to the club.

Doherty has hit the ground running since arriving from Wolves in the summer and has started four out of Tottenham’s first six matches of the campaign.

The right-back admitted that his first month in North London could not have gone much better than he expected.

Speaking to Football.London, he said: “I’ve settled in really well. Absolutely love it here. I’ve been down here a month now and I couldn’t be happier with the move I’ve made. Things are going really well.”

The defender previously admitted that he has found working with Mourinho to be even better than he expected (Guardian).

When asked what he meant by that, the 28-year-old revealed that he enjoys the Spurs boss’ sense of humour.

Doherty said about the 57-year-old: “From the outside, you just see the interviews and you don’t see the sense of humour and bond he has with the players.

“Even before I signed we had some conversations and he was very welcoming. Finding out what I need to do to improve and play under him has been a pleasure.”

When pushed on the kind of conversations he had with Mourinho before joining Tottenham, he added: “We were just talking and he’d send me a video of the changing room, saying ‘this changing room is waiting for you’ and photos of the shirt. Everyone at the club has been first class.”
