‘Don’t be surprised’ – Journalist says Spurs consider move for Chelsea player

Ben Jacobs has become the latest journalist to talk up the chances of Tottenham making a move for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window

Chalobah’s days at Chelsea appear to be numbered, with reports indicating that the centre-back has been told he is free to leave the club in January (Football Insider).

While Sky Sports claimed earlier this month that Spurs’ interest in the 24-year-old had cooled, this claim has since been contradicted by other outlets.

An update from TEAMtalk on Tuesday suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s men had already reached out to Chalobah’s representatives to discuss their options for a January deal.

The publication added that other Premier League sides, including Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, were also eying the centre-back.

Would Trevoh Chalobah move to Spurs?

Jacobs has now also named Tottenham as the potential clubs to watch in the race for Chalobah’s signature.

The journalist suggested that the Lilywhites could abandon their plans to sign a young, up-and-coming defender and could decide to pursue a centre-back with Premier League experience such as the Chelsea player.

Jacobs told The Debrief: “Trevoh Chalobah will be an interesting name. Bayern was his club of destination, but you might find a Premier League club come in. Nottingham Forest tried, but he wanted European football, at that point Spurs weren’t on the radar because they’d just signed Micky van de Ven.

“He’s available on the market and probably at quite a good price as Chelsea want to resolve that one early in the window. Don’t be surprised if Tottenham pivot from this longer-term young centre-back to maybe a more proven Premier League player who can do a job until some of these other names come back.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do think Spurs would ideally want a centre-back with Premier League experience but that would not be a deal-breaker for Ange or the club as evidenced by the signings of Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario in the summer.

I would be quite surprised if Tottenham pushed ahead with a move for Chalobah, given that the 24-year-old has not kicked a ball all season due to his injury woes.
