‘Don’t listen to fake news’ – Conte directly addresses recent PSG rumours

Antonio Conte has dismissed the rumours linking him with PSG as ‘fake news’ and claims people need to show more respect when fabricating such ‘lies’.

This comes after the Tottenham head coach was strongly linked with the Paris Saint-Germain job over the past week, despite Mauricio Pochettino still being in charge.

La Parisien claimed that Conte had actually offered himself to PSG on a two-year contract and was keen on taking over from Pochettino. RMC Sport then listed a series of demands Conte was said to have made of the French giants, including a huge wage increase.

However, Le10Sport contradicted such reports and claimed there had been no contract between PSG and Conte’s camp.

Conte himself has now come out in support of that report, stating to the Tottenham fans that links between him and PSG are nothing more than fake news.

He added that, at the end of the season, he would talk to the Spurs hierarchy and determine the best possible solution moving forward.

On the PSG links, Conte said (Jonathan Veal): “I think the people that want to tell something like this have to show respect for all the people that are involved in this situation and not invent fake news and tell lies.”

He added (Football London): “In this moment our fans, we need to be focused, we need to be concentrated in an important target. We have a big opportunity to try and get a place in the Champions League.

“Now don’t listen to fake news and people for sure want to create problems for the environment. We have five games and then at the end of the season in a private way I will speak with my club and I will see the best solution.”

Finally, when asked if he had spoken to his players about the PSG rumours, Conte said: “In this situation who works in football, players or managers, know very well at this point in the season a lot of fake news starts to go out.

“We are working very hard, my players know very well that we are really focused, we are speaking a lot about this opportunity. We have to live this situation with passion, enthusiasm and joy.

“We deserve to fight for a place in the Champions League. To stay there we need to enjoy this situation. Our fans have to stay close to us in every moment, in every negative moment.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I can’t see how Conte won’t be at Tottenham next season. I assume guarantees have already been made to him and, if Levy has any sense from a business and PR point of view, he will fulfil such promises. Conte can win trophies if given the tools at Tottenham.
