Dortmund CEO on facing Spurs in the round of 16: We want to go through

Tottenham Hotspur were drawn against German giants Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League draw at Nyon. Spurs fans will be relatively happy with the draw considering the fact that the Lillywhites could have drawn the likes of PSG, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Bayern Munich, after the finished second in the group.

However, Borussia Dortmund have been in terrific form since the start of the season and are a completely different outfit to the one Spurs overcame twice in last year’s group stage. BVB not only topped their Champions League group ahead of the likes of Atletico Madrid and Monaco but also sit nine points clear at the top of Bundesliga table with 15 games played.

BVB’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, who was present at Nyon for the draw, on the whole, reacted favourably to drawing the North London side. Speaking to Dortmund’s official website, he said, “There are only tough ties in the Champions League last 16. I believe we have a 50-50 chance in our tie with Tottenham.”

Watzke also mentioned how the past meetings between the two clubs point towards this being a closely contested tie. He added, “It’s the third time the two clubs have faced each other in European competition in the space of three years. The head-to-head record currently stands at 1-1. We want to go through!”

Whatever the result, it looks like it will certainly be a cracker of a tie.
