Dutch legend wants Tottenham to play Ajax for this reason

Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester City tonight in the Champions League quarter final second leg, with both teams bidding for a place in the final four.

Barcelona and Ajax both already qualified for the semi finals last night, with the latter being Tottenham’s potential opponent if they follow suit.

Spurs have never made it to a semi in the competition before, with their only other quarter final appearance coming back in 2011.

However, Tottenham take a 1-0 advantage into their away leg at the Etihad, thanks to a late strike by Heung Min Son at the new stadium last Tuesday.

Spurs will qualify tonight if they manage a win, a draw, or a loss by only one goal with both teams scoring.

One ex-Netherlands player would be extremely pleased with this result if it plays out, as Rafa Van Der Vaart has a special place in his heart for both Spurs and Ajax.

Rafa said this on the potential ‘Van Der Vaart Derby’ (BBC – quoted by HITC): “It’s going to be a difficult one. I hope so. One of my favourite teams they are going to play the final [if Spurs meet Ajax in semi-finals], so let’s hope they can win tomorrow.”
