Dutch report claims 20-goal striker could be a Spurs player by the end of the week

According to a report from Holland, Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their interest in signing Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst.

There is plenty of excitement around Tottenham at the moment after the club secured the return of Gareth Bale but reports indicate that the Lilywhites are still looking for a striker and a centre-back before the transfer window shuts (Evening Standard).

Spurs certainly did not look short of firepower upfront on Sunday as an on-form Harry Kane and Son Heung-min put five past Southampton but Jose Mourinho admitted after the game that he still wants to sign another striker (Football.London)

Weghorst was one of the names who was said to be on Tottenham’s radar (Bild) and a report by Dutch news outlet Tubantia claims that the striker could be a Spurs player by the end of this week.

The report reveals that the striker, who found the back of the net 20 times for Wolfsburg last season in all competitions (transfermarkt.com) has been identified by the North Londoners as an ideal back up to Kane.

The Dutch international is said to be keen on completing the move to Tottenham.

Spurs Web Opinion

Weghorst is arguably the only kind of forward we lack in our squad at the moment. The pace of Bale and Son on the break along with Kane’s passing ability makes us deadly when the opposition plays a high defensive line but we might still struggle to break down teams who sit in a low-block. This is where a centre-forward like Weghorst who is so dominant in the air and excels at playing with his back to goal, can come in extremely handy.
