Tottenham failed to make any signings this summer, becoming the first ever Premier League club to do so.
Manchester Evening News have reported this was largely down to Ed Woodward.
The United chief apparently shut down any prospect of a Spurs move for young Anthony Martial.
Jose Mourinho was apparently happy to sell the wantaway star in order to raise funds for the likes of Perisic or Willian.
However, Woodward put his foot down, claiming Martial was good enough to become one of the best forwards in the world, and maybe a future Ballon D’or winner.
They may be tempted to sell in January, as the Frenchman has entered the final year of his deal.
United do have the option to extend this by a year, but they may choose to cash in now.
Martial recently scored both of his club’s goals in a 2-2 draw to Chelsea in the League.
Should Spurs place a January bid?
