Speaking upon his induction into the Premier League Hall of Fame recently, former Arsenal and Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole reserved some special praise for Tottenham Hotspur’s Destiny Udogie.
It has been a great first season in the Premier League for Destiny Udogie. After signing for Spurs in 2022, the Italian spent another year on loan with his former club Udinese, but he has had an instant impact upon his arrival in England.
He has registered two goals and three assists in 28 league appearances this season (Transfermarkt) and has been a key facet of Ange Postecoglou‘s rather radical system, providing extra attacking options from his inverted full-back role.
Sadly, Udogie’s season has come to a premature end after he underwent surgery recently. But, in such a short space of time, Udogie has established himself as one of the best there is in his position, and it’s scary to think that, at just 21 years old, he has so much more to give in the future.
Destiny Udogie is already one of the best full-backs in the league
Speaking to TNT Sports about being honoured in the Premier League Hall of Fame, Ashley Cole discussed some of the current full-backs in the league, and offered a special mention for Udogie in the process.
Cole said: “You have to applaud and give credit to the top ones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, Andrew Robertson, who is bombing up and down and can do everything.

“There are some top quality full-backs in the Premier League at the moment – Destiny Udogie at Tottenham, who I think is elite.”

We have genuinely got a player here who will be the best in the world for his position in two or three years. The ceiling on Udogie’s talent is crazy, and the fact we got him for so cheap and have him locked into a huge contract is very, very smart.
