Emerson Royal has revealed that he has been informed he will be eligible to play against Newcastle United this weekend for Tottenham.

Spurs failed to convince Argentina, Brazil and Colombia to release Giovani Lo Celso, Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Emerson early from the international break.

However, reports suggest that the North London club are confident their players will be eligible to make the trip to St James’ Park once they return to the UK and stay at Hotspur Way overnight.

Romero and Lo Celso played in Argentina’s 1-0 win over Peru overnight, while Emerson started for Brazil in their 4-1 win over Uruguay. Sanchez, meanwhile, was an unused substitute during Colombia’s 0-0 draw with Chile.

The Evening Standard have revealed that Tottenham have put on a private jet to fly the quartet home, with the four players expected to be part of Spurs’ squad for Sunday’s clash.

Emerson is quoted in the report as saying that he ‘will play’ against the Magpies.

Speaking after the Brazil game in Manaus, the right-back said: “I am leaving here straight to London to get ready. For now, the information that I have is that I will arrive and play on Sunday.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This is great news for Spurs, particularly after the impressive displays that both Romero and Emerson put in against Villa.

However, Nuno might consider leaving Romero, Lo Celso and Emerson on the bench, given that they played in the early hours of Friday morning UK time.

So, I would not be surprised to see Sanchez starting alongside Dier at centre-back and Tanganga at right-back on Sunday.
