Emerson Royal’s agent Dr Fabiano de Abreu has insisted that the right-back is set to remain at Tottenham as Antonio Conte considers his client to be a key player.
Over the last few weeks, reports have indicated that despite Emerson’s desire to stay, Spurs are listening to offers for the Brazilian this summer (Football.London).
The speculation linking the 23-year-old with a move to Atletico Madrid has gathered a lot of steam over recent days.
Tuttomercatoweb reported on Monday that Atletico had made the Spurs man their number one right-back target and were in talks with the North London club over an initial loan deal for the player with an option to buy him permanently.
Football Insider then claimed on Wednesday that Diego Simeone’s side had launched an opening offer for the former Real Betis man. The report added that Tottenham are seeking a fee of more than £20m to let the defender leave.
However, Abreu has now insisted that Conte views Emerson as his first-choice right-back, and added that Tottenham will not let his client leave even if they receive an offer of €40m (£34.4m).
He told Lance: “Emerson does not leave Tottenham. In fact, Antonio Conte said that even if it was for 40 million euros, the loan would not come out since he has the player as number one in his position. Royal is happy in the team and his football tends to improve.”

This is quite a puzzling statement by Emerson’s agent as one would assume that he would have been informed by now if Tottenham were listening to offers for his client. I would be extremely surprised if the 23-year-old is still at the club by the end of the transfer window.
