Emerson Royal’s agent has revealed he held informal talks with Atletico Madrid but did not disclose whether the discussions were about securing his client a move from Tottenham.
Emerson joined Spurs from Barcelona last summer and endured a mixed campaign in his first season in England.
He made 40 appearances for the club, including 30 in the Premier League (Transfermarkt), but he has already been linked with a move away from North London.
Sky Sports recently reported that a move back to Spain is on the cards for Emerson with Diego Simeone’s Atletico keen on acquiring the 23-year-old this summer.
Emerson’s agent, Emerson Zulu, who is also the Brazil international’s father, has since revealed that he recently met with Los Rojiblancos but denied the meeting was to do with the Spurs right-back.
The delegate insisted he also acts as the representative of other players too, including Reyer Luan of Brazilian side Santos and Internacional’s Vito.
He said (via Mundo Deportivo): “I had an informal conversation with Atlético de Madrid, but I am not only Emerson Royal’s agent, I have other players, so I can’t confirm this information released in the press.”

Even though Emerson enjoyed a strong end to the season and helped Spurs secure qualification for the Champions League, it looks as though the club may want to upgrade him already.
Atletico would actually be a good destination for him as the Spanish league is a better environment for him, especially given he has already played a number of seasons there.
