Emery admits who are the better side between Arsenal and Spurs

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are the better side going into this afternoon’s North London derby.

Tottenham have finished above Arsenal in the Premier League table for successive seasons and currently enjoy a three-point advantage over their bitter rivals.

Arsenal have won one of their last eight Premier League matches against Spurs (D4 L3). However, Tottenham’s record at the Emirates is less than desirable having won just one of their last 25 away Premier League games at the ground which severely lacks an atmosphere (D10 L14).

Despite the fact that Arsenal are unbeaten in their last seventeen matches in all competitions, Emery suggests that Spurs should be considered the best side at present, but insists Arsenal’s history is better than Tottenham.

It will be the first time that the Spaniard has led his side into a North London derby fixture having only taken over from Arsene Wenger in the summer.

“At the moment, Tottenham is better than us in the table and better than us last year but in history Arsenal is better at other moments than Tottenham,” Emery told Sky Sports.

“I think we are going to live with two (sets of) supporters and I think it will be a very good atmosphere.

“The first match is in our stadium and with our supporters and we want on Sunday to give them the best performance and can give them our energy and our things on the pitch to help them push us.

“The Seville derby is very, very passionate,” asked about his previous experience of a derby match, he replied.

“I lived different derbies like Real Sociedad vs Athletic Bilbao, like CSKA Moscow vs Spartak, PSG vs Olympique Marseille.

“Sevilla vs Betis is with the passion because they are two teams with very big and passionate supporters and here in England I think I am going to live Sunday the first derby and think it is similar with the passion.

“Sometimes in the history, Sevilla is better and sometimes Betis are better. I think here it is the same.”
