‘Ends like this’ – Cristian Romero posts heartbroken message after injury news

Cristian Romero has admitted he is heartbroken to end what has been a ‘dream year’ by picking up a long-term injury.

Romero picked up a hamstring strain while on international duty with Argentina last month and has not featured for Spurs since his return.

Following multiple scans, Conte confirmed in his press conference on Wednesday that the 23-year-old’s injury is serious and that he is not likely to return to action before January or February of next year.

This comes as a huge blow for Spurs as the Argentine was showing signs of settling into the Premier League in the weeks preceding his injury.

Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez have deputised at right-centre-back in Romero’s absence over the past couple of weeks.

Romero has now taken to social media to admit he is heartbroken that a year, which involved winning the Copa America with Argentina and getting a big-money move to Spurs, has ended such a way.

The former Atalanta defender insisted he is now fully focussed on his rehabilitation and recovery.

The injury to Romero is undoubtedly a big blow for Spurs but it does potentially provide Sanchez with a chance to save his Tottenham career.

I was surprised that Conte played Sanchez at right-centre-back ahead of Tanganga against Brentford but perhaps the Colombian has been impressing on the training ground.
