England release Kane to return to Tottenham

Harry Kane has been released from the England squad before Tuesday’s match against Spain.

The striker has returned to Tottenham to continue working on his fitness ahead of Saturday’s derby against West Ham United at White Hart Lane.

Kane returned to the Tottenham side and was on the scoresheet in the 1-1 draw at Arsenal, where he featured for 73 minutes – his only match action since injuring his ankle against Sunderland on September 18th.

He was on the bench for England’s win against Scotland on Friday, but did not feature.  From a Tottenham perspective, it seems like a smart move from Gareth Southgate who feels that it is in Kane’s best interests to return to Spurs.

“The sessions we’re going to do aren’t what Harry needs at this time,” said interim England boss Gareth Southgate.

“It was never really my intention to start him in a game and I think it’s important that he gets a different training programme to what we’re going to follow over the next couple of days.”
