Eric Dier reveals he found one thing ‘really unfair’ when Leicester pipped Spurs to PL title

Eric Dier has revealed that he found it quite unfair that Leicester City were always playing ahead of Tottenham when the two clubs were locked in a title race during the 2015-16 season.

Dier sat down with Gary Neville on The Overlap this week to chat about his time at Tottenham and his move to Bayern Munich.

In the interview, the centre-back also touched on the time Leicester pipped Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side to the Premier League title.

While the Foxes always had a decent cushion over Spurs, many felt at the time that it was only a matter of time before the Midlands Club would drop points but that never happened in the end.

Eric Dier reflects on Leicester City’s Premier League title

Dier pointed out that the Foxes always played their match ahead of the Lilywhites during the title run-in which meant that he had his Spurs teammates struggled to build any sort of momentum.

The centre-back said: “Obviously you never want to rule out (Bayern) winning the league, but the defeat against Borussia Dortmund was a bit of a sucker punch. I’ve been in that situation before with Tottenham when Leicester were going for the title.

“I felt it was really unfair at the time because they seemed to play before us every single week, and it was never like we can win first and put the pressure on them. Every weekend was a bit of a sucker punch because they would win their game, so we were never able to gain any momentum.”

Not only were Leicester always playing before Spurs but they were also fluking last-minute wins during the final couple of months, which would have been quite hard for the Tottenham players to digest before they went out onto the pitch.
