Eric Dier reveals what has ‘surprised’ him about new Spurs star Richarlison

Richarlison is fast becoming a fan favourite at Tottenham Hotspur after an impressive start to his career in North London. Now, Eric Dier has shared the thing that surprised him most about his new teammate.

The Brazilian forward was one of many new signings for Spurs this summer in a promising transfer window. Arriving from Everton for a fee of £50 million, rising to £60 million with add-ons (Sky Sports), expectations were high for Richarlison.

He had to bide his time and work hard to earn his place in the starting line-up, of course. The front three of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, and Dejan Kulusevski were deadly last season, and replacing any of them was never going to be easy.

After making an impact from the bench in previous games, Richarlison got his first start against Fulham last weekend. He added another assist to his name (Tranfsermarkt) and very nearly got his first goal for the club too, before it was chalked off for offside.

Thankfully, he didn’t have to wait very long for those goals to come though, scoring a brace in the 2-0 win against Marseille on Wednesday night. The fans were delighted with the wonderful headed goals, and they’re not the only ones who were impressed.

Speaking to the Tottenham Hotspur official website, Eric Dier has spoken about his new teammate and shared what has surprised him the most about Richarlison.

He said: “He plays with his heart on his sleeve, every day, in training, in matches. I can’t speak highly enough of him, his character, the way he works every day. His patience having not played too much at the beginning of the season.

“He’s come in in the last two games. They were great headers as well. He’s very strong in the air. That’s maybe a part of his game that’s surprised me a little since he arrived. He’s such a threat in the air and physically so strong.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Richarlison is strong in so many aspects of his game and is probably more of an all-round player than many would have assumed.

Not only is he quick, aggressive, and a good finisher, but he also has a great jump on him and is fairly prolific when he makes the connection in the air. He proved that on Wednesday night, and hopefully will continue to surprise us all with his skill set.
