Eric Dier shares special moment with Tottenham supporters during Champions League draw

Eric Dier was unable to face his former club, but he did have his moment in front of the Tottenham Hotspur supporters.

Eric Dier must feel like his days at Tottenham Hotspur are long behind him. The ex-England international only left on an initial loan move in January last year, but he has already played for Bayern Munich and now he plays his football in Ligue 1.

Dier was the hero for Monaco against Manchester City in their second Champions League fixture. The defender won and converted a stoppage-time penalty to rescue an important 2-2 draw.

He was preparing to face another Premier League opponent, and this one would be a bit more personal. However, Dier was ruled out of Monaco’s clash with Spurs due to an injury.

Tottenham supporters give Eric Dier his moment

Dier’s fitness issues did not keep him away from the football. In fact, he was in attendance at the UEFA Youth League fixture on Wednesday afternoon, a match in which Tottenham sealed a 4-2 victory.

The former Lilywhite was at Stade Louis II later that day to watch his teammates past and present, and he shared a special moment with the visiting supporters.

During the second half, Dier walked around the athletics track surrounding the pitch when he was serenaded by the away section. The Spurs fans belted out the ‘I love Eric Dier’ song, and the player responded with a wave.

Monaco need Dier back as soon as possible

Tottenham should not be disappointed with a draw based on the proceedings of Wednesday night, but it is still a blow to their hopes of finishing in the top eight of the league phase.

However, Monaco are in a much worse situation, as they sit in 27th place on just two points after three matches. The Ligue 1 side needs a victory in the Champions League and having Dier fit as quickly as possible will be a priority.
