Eric Dier spotted saying something rather sad to the Spurs cameras at Hotspur Way

Some Tottenham fans felt sorry for Eric Dier after the centre-back’s comments to the Spurs TV crew this week.

Dier has been a great servant for Tottenham, having made 361 appearances for the club in his eight and a half years in North London.

The centre-back has had plenty of ups and downs in that time and was a key part of the club’s title challenges under Mauricio Pochettino back in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

However, over the last couple of years, the England international has become a much-derided figure in light of some of the errors he has made at the back.

The 29-year-old’s current contract at Spurs runs out next summer and it has been widely reported that he could be on his way out of the club in January (The Times).

Eric Dier tells Spurs media team not to film him

Dier, who has not played a single minute under Ange Postecoglou so far this season, made a tongue-in-cheek comment to the Spurs TV film crew where he himself poked fun at the fact that he is now quite a peripheral figure at the club.

The crew were filming the players on their arrival to Hotspur Way and the defender jokingly said: “You don’t need to film me it’s okay. I know you aren’t going to use it.”

According to talkSPORT, several Spurs fans have taken to social media to admit that they feel quite bad that it has come to this for Dier, given the service he has given to the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have long believed that Dier (and many other players for that matter) gets too much disrespect and many fans have decided to re-write history by suggesting that he has always been terrible for us, which is far from the truth.

However, I am sure that the 29-year-old’s mental health is fine as he comes across as an extremely intelligent person, who has a lot of perspective about things. I doubt he bases his sense of self-worth on what people on social media say about him.
